What we have

The next Step 2 is a gap analysis of over 70 fuel saving initiatives/best practices in Flight Operations, Flight Planning, Maintenance & Engineering, Ground Services, and more.

The gap analysis:

  • Identifies opportunities to improve fuel efficiency, either by introducing new initiatives or by optimising existing ones
  • Estimates the remaining potential savings based on your specific operations for each of the opportunities identified
  • Results in a prioritised list of target areas with room for improvement
  • Gives concrete recommendations on how to achieve the estimated potential savings

Fuel Efficiency - Gap Analysis

The example above shows results for a B767-300 fleet. Potential savings per initiative presented here are based on actual assessments at several European airlines. They are of course highly dependent on the specific operation of the airline and the status and effectiveness of its Fuel Efficiency Programme. The remaining potential savings in this case add up to a total of 1.8 million US$ per year.

The gap analysis is carried out in two phases:

  1. The gap analysis starts with an initial assessment of the fuel savings initiatives already implemented. We use our own Fuel Savings Reference Guide describing over 70 concrete initiatives based on best practices found in the airline industry (operators, manufacturers and other organisations), as well as experience gained while working with other airlines. Your set of current initiatives will be checked against this Reference Guide to see whether promising initiatives are not yet part of your Fuel Efficiency Program, and to assess if there is room for improvement for initiatives already in place.
  2. Based on the findings in the initial assessment, a more detailed analysis of the most promising opportunities will be conducted. This includes an estimate of the potential fuel savings. The analysis will be tailored to the operation of the airline by using, for instance, flight data and flight planning data. Recommendations on how to achieve those savings will also be made.
