Which services does the facility offer

The German-Dutch Wind tunnels DNW operate amongst others its own large, low-speed facility (LLF) and the High Speed wind Tunnel (HST) of NLR for test en evaluation purposes of new industrial systems and aircraft. DNW offers wind tunnel testing techniques for the aerodynamic, aero-acoustic and aero-elastic simulation of aircraft models in a controlled environment with excellent air flow characteristics. The experimental capabilities of the facilities capture the essence of the issues to be investigated in the take-off/landing and cruise regimes. Innovations and investments focus on aircraft safety (flight in ground proximity), environmental issues (noise hindrance) and engine integration related testing capabilities (saving fuel, reducing CO2 emission).

The LLF has been designed as a closed return circuit wind tunnel (with open and closed test sections upto 9.5 m * 9.5 m) for industrial aerodynamic and aero-acoustic testing of complete aircraft configurations or its components with excellent air flow characteristics and very low background noise levels.
The HST is a high pressure density, closed circuit, continuous wind tunnel to replicate with high precision near flight aerodynamics for subsonic, transonic and low supersonic conditions. Test section size ranges from 2,0 m * 1,6 – 1,8 m.
The staff is experienced in state-of-the-art force, pressure, acoustic, flight control, vibratory, and dynamic testing of powered and unpowered fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft and other test articles in and out of ground effect.

Who can benefit from these services
