Safe and competitive operations: research projects
For over 100 years, NRL has been a leading knowledge institute for applied research, committed to a better world of tomorrow. We work objectively and independently, for and with the national and international business community and government agencies.
On this page you will find a number of the research projects related to this programme.
Safe integration, introduction and certification of new technology and operations
In this project we are developing knowledge, facilities and methods for the safe integration, introduction and certification of new technology related to aircraft design and use, and air traffic control (among others).
Goal: to determine which new technologies and operational concepts need a new approach for their safe introduction and integration within aviation, including identifying where existing certification methods will be inadequate; where necessary, formulating potential additional safety or certification criteria; knowledge accrual about methods and techniques that can assist in the validation and certification of new technology or operational concepts.
Partners: universities, research institutions, aviation sector.
Data and platform for safety monitoring
We are developing a sector-wide (prototype) platform that will enable the sharing and distribution of sensitive (safety) data, thus providing faster and deeper insight into safety trends for the entire industry. The project involves: collecting, cleaning up, combining, monitoring and analysing data about integrated safety, and reporting on the basis of this data.
Goal: research into feasibility, establishing data sharing and platform for safety performance monitoring, with research into indicators and target values for safety management and supervisory activities.
