About DLR
DLR is the national aeronautics and space research centre of the Federal Republic of Germany. Its extensive research and development work in aeronautics, space, energy, transport and security is integrated into national and international cooperative ventures. In addition to its own research, as Germany’s space agency, DLR has been given responsibility by the federal government for the planning and implementation of the German space programme. DLR has approximately 8000 employees at 20 locations in Germany.
The DLR Institute of Composite Structures and Adaptive Systems is an expert in the design and development of innovative lightweight systems. The research serves the improvement of safety, cost-efficiency, functionality, comfort and environment protection. The institute bridges the gap between fundamental research and industrial application. The expertise of the Institute in multifunctional materials, structural mechanics, composite design, composite technology, adaptronics, composite process technology is orientated along the entire process chain of making adaptable, tolerant, efficient manufactured, lightweight structures.

About NLR
NLR – Netherlands Aerospace Centre is the central institute for aerospace research in The Netherlands, providing independent expert contributions to activities in aerospace and related fields. NLR’s activities span the full spectrum of Research Development Test & Evaluation (RDT & E). Given NLR’s specialist knowledge and facilities, companies turn to NLR for validation, verification, qualification, simulation and evaluation. NLR thereby bridges the gap between research and practical applications, while working for both government and industry at home and abroad.
The development of advanced composite structures is a core capability of NLR and is carried out by NLR’s Structures Technology Department. NLR has available all expertise and facilities for development of composite components: conceptual design, materials screening, detailed analysis, mould design and manufacture, manufacturing process development, prototype manufacturing, mechanical testing and certification. For more information on NLR’s composite manufacturing activities visit this page or contact Bert Thuis at +31 88 511 4604 or bert.thuis@nlr.nl.
