Defence strengthens units with drone and counter‑drone capability
The Ministry of Defence is taking a major step forward in the further development of the Dutch armed forces by officially integrating drones and anti-drone capabilities into combat units. During Drone Day in Oirschot (NL), it became clear just how important Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) have become for modern military operations. This development is the result of intensive collaboration between the Ministry of Defence, research institutions and the Dutch drone industry.

Clearing the skies: why space debris demands action now
As the number of satellites in orbit grows, so does the challenge of keeping space safe and sustainable. What was once a vast and largely empty domain is rapidly becoming congested with hazardous debris. Without coordinated action, the very infrastructure that underpins modern society is at risk. The growing debris problem requires collective efforts — including the Zero Debris Charter — aimed at securing the future of space.

Cosmic radiation threatens the reliability of aircraft systems
Recently, a remarkable incident made the news: thousands of Airbus aircraft worldwide were grounded after cosmic radiation disrupted digital electronic systems. A problem long familiar in space applications is becoming increasingly relevant for aviation. Ongoing digitalisation is making modern systems more vulnerable to invisible radiation from space.

Unique in the EU: Modular EPTF Test Facility for Hydrogen-Powered Flight
With the opening of the Energy to Propulsion Test Facility (EPTF), NLR now operates a unique, modular test facility designed to support research. At present, the focus lies on hydrogen-electric aircraft propulsion. The new facility provides startups, SMEs and industrial partners with optimal conditions to safely and thoroughly test complex innovations in this field. In doing so, NLR contributes to accelerating aviation sustainability.

Royal NLR and Lockheed Martin collaborate on e-Pilot capability development
Together with its partners, Royal Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR) will work closely with Lockheed Martin to advance the development of an e-Pilot capability that enhances human-machine teaming in military aviation over the next six years. Lockheed Martin will share technical knowledge and experiences on e-Pilot technology to assist NLR and its partners in developing their own intellectual property within the sense, assess and augment architecture.

Royal NLR partners with Lockheed Martin on airframe repair and life extension capabilities
Royal Netherlands Aerospace Centre will work together with Lockheed Martin on the development of small crack methodologies for airframe lifing over the next three years. In this project LM and NLR will share and exchange technical knowledge and experiences on small crack methodologies applied to laser peening and cold spray technologies

Strategic cooperation between NLR and TNO accelerates dutch military space capabilities
Royal Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR) and TNO have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to accelerate innovation in the field of Military Use of Space (MUoS). This agreement is a further intensification of the existing cooperation between the two knowledge institutions, which have been working together for over ten years in the field of military space applications.

Neways and NLR to develop a Dutch-only Flight Control System for drones
Neways, a global innovator in mission-critical technology, today announced a strategic collaboration with Royal NLR (Netherlands Aerospace Centre), the national authority in aerospace research. The partnership focuses on developing a sovereign Dutch Flight Control System specifically designed for professional and industrial drone applications.
