Commonly known are the (static) wind tunnel tests on scale. The scaled testing reduce cost and risk of full-scale tests. Self-powered, free-flying dynamically scaled models can be used to discover the dynamic \u201crealm\u201d. For example, control, stability and upset conditions (like spin recovery, high angle of attack, stall). This is not possible with static test, and in most cases very risky when using a full-scale prototype.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NLR can support you with its expertise in systems engineering aspects of scaled aircraft, such as applied in RPAS, UAS, or drones and the design and operation of a ground control station. We can provide insights into scaling factors of model aircraft, as well as guidance on integration aspects of these scaled aircraft. Our knowledge extends to aircraft performance, stability, and control of scaled aircraft, and we can perform the flight tests on scaled aircraft platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, we offer a representative test environment for innovative technologies on scaled aircraft, helping you to develop and validate your solutions in a realistic setting. Innovative designs (e.g. distributed Electric Propulsion) and their effects on flight safety can be tested in scaled flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the scaled UAS model is finalised, NLR can support you with reporting the qualification process essential to obtain the desired flight permit for national, international or cross border operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>NLR can support you with:<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list is-style-with-arrow\">\n<li>A research programme called \u201cScaled Model Aircraft Research &amp; Development\u201d (SMARD) has been started, which resulted in several scaled flight testing activities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A platform that has about four (4) metres wingspan and a projected maximum take-off weight up to 167kg.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A systems engineering capability to be used for complex scaled aircraft platforms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Design and operation (BVLOS) using a ground control station.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Integration means for additional payload to a SMARD platform.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A technology demonstrator based on one of the many RPAS\/UAS\/drone applications.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Operational environment to perform flight testing of a SMARD platform.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Opportunities to cooperate with external partners on dynamically scaled aircraft research and development.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The qualification process needed to obtain the relevant Flight Permits for national, international or cross border operations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dynamically scaled models are used for the validation of an aircraft design or aircraft technology, after it has been analysed and improved with numerical methods.
