Doel van de vlucht was het verifi\u00ebren van de atmosferische modellen die gebruikt worden om een verwachting van de bewegingen van de aswolk te maken.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Uit de vlucht die de Cessna Citation zondagavond maakte boven de zuidelijke provincies van Nederland blijkt dat de aswolk visueel goed te zien is. De grenzen van de aswolk die gisteravond boven de zuidelijke provincies hing, zijn goed zichtbaar. Dit is voor vliegers van groot belang wanneer het luchtruim straks weer (gedeeltelijk) open gaat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aanleiding voor de vlucht is het verifi\u00ebren van de modellen die het KNMI gebruikt voor het berekenen van de bewegingen van vulkanische stofwolken. Deze metingen worden onder meer door de Nederlandse luchtvaartinstanties gebruikt bij de besluitvorming over het afsluiten en weer openstellen van het luchtruim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Uit de gisteren gemaakte vlucht is gebleken dat de plaats waar de vulkanische stoflaag zich bevond goed overeenstemde met de modellen. Hiervoor vloog het laboratoriumvliegtuig over de aswolk heen. De aswolk lag gisteren tot op een hoogte van 3 kilometer en had een wisselende dikte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Europa zijn er nog weinig middelen om vulkanische as met grote precisie te meten en te volgen. Er is ook nog geen regelgeving die bepaalt bij welke concentratie asdeeltjes het luchtruim open (of dicht) gaat. Onderzoekers van het NLR werken daarom op dit moment keihard samen met andere instellingen zoals het KNMI, RIVM, Defensie, IVW en Eurocontrol.
