Deze satelliet betreft een experimenteel project die in opdracht van de Koninklijke Luchtmacht in een uniek samenwerkingsverband is ontwikkeld. Hiermee betreedt Defensie het ruimtedomein. Een historische mijlpaal voor de krijgsmacht.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zowel civiel als militair is onze samenleving zeer afhankelijk van satellietsystemen. Denk aan het gebruik van navigatie- en communicatiesystemen. Daarmee gaan zowel kansen als bedreigingen gepaard. De NAVO benadrukte het belang van het gebruik van de ruimte eind 2019 door de ruimte tot operationeel domein te verklaren. Ook de Nederlandse defensie onderkent dit belang. Zo is in de &#8216;Defensievisie 2035&#8217; beschreven dat het gebruik van de ruimte een noodzakelijke schakel is geworden van het informatiegestuurd optreden van onze krijgsmacht.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Samen met Nederlandse industrie en kennisinstituten \u2013 waaronder NLR \u2013 zal Defensie schaalbare en betaalbare capaciteiten onderzoeken voor militair gebruik van de ruimte. Nanosatellieten, die qua omvang net iets groter zijn dan een melkpak, zijn goedkoper dan de grote traditionele satellieten en kunnen in grotere aantallen in een baan om de aarde worden gebracht waardoor de kwetsbaarheid van het systeem als geheel wordt verkleind. De BRIK-II is een nanosatelliet, waarmee de betrokken partijen willen aantonen dat een dergelijke satelliet geschikt is voor relevante (militaire) communicatie en informatie toepassingen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:70%\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Samen sterker<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>De bouw van de BRIK-II onderstreept het innovatieve vermogen van Nederlandse industrie en kennisinstituten om relevante militaire en\/of \u2018dual use\u2019-capaciteiten te ontwikkelen. Het Delftse bedrijf Innovative Solutions in Space (ISISPACE) is de ontwerper en integrator van de BRIK-II. Koninklijke NLR heeft nieuwe technologie\u00ebn ontwikkeld die op de BRIK-II in de praktijk worden gebracht: met een geminiaturiseerde payload, op gebied van signal intelligence, kan de satelliet radiosignalen vanuit de ruimte detecteren en de plek van de bron op het aardoppervlak lokaliseren. Daarnaast wordt er samengewerkt met de Technische Universiteit Delft (TU Delft) en internationaal met de University of Oslo. BRIK staat symbool voor de ontwikkeling van de Nederlandse lucht- en ruimtevaart sinds 1913. In dat jaar bouwde Marinus van Meel \u2018De Brik\u2019 en daarmee het eerste vliegtuig voor de toenmalige \u2018Luchtvaartafdeeling\u2019 in Soesterberg. Dit vliegtuig werd door de Nederlandse krijgsmacht ingezet om het luchtvaartdomein te ontdekken.
