Hun producten moeten bijdragen aan de ESA-programma\u2019s. Dawn Aerospace heeft hiervoor \u20ac500k toegekend gekregen via de gefaseerde innovatiecompetitie &#8216;Small Business Innovation Research&#8217; (SBIR).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NSO, het Netherlands Space Office, heeft aan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawnaerospace.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dawn Aerospace<\/a> een <em>Small Business Innovation Research<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rvo.nl\/subsidies-financiering\/sbir\/abc-sbir\/technologieontwikkeling-ruimte-infrastructuur#fase\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SBIR<\/a>) fase 2-opdracht van \u20ac500.000 toegekend.&nbsp;De opdracht financiert onderzoek naar het 3D-printen van brandstoftanks met niet-standaard metalen voor gebruik in ESPA- en ESPA Grande-klasse-satellieten. Partners zijn onder meer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tno.nl\/nl\/aandachtsgebieden\/defensie-veiligheid\/expertisegroepen\/energetische-materialen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TNO-afdeling energetische materialen<\/a>, en Koninklijke NLR, het Nederlands Lucht- en Ruimtevaartcentrum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dawn-satellietvoortstuwingssysteem maakt gebruik van de zelfdrukkende stuwstoffen lachgas en propeen. Ze hebben daarom geen helium of <em>Propellant Management Devices<\/em> nodig, zoals gebruikelijk is bij standaard stuwstoffen in de ruimte zoals hydrazine. Dit is belangrijk omdat Dawn nu brandstoftanks kan produceren in een breed scala aan vormfactoren, specifiek voor de satelliet van elke klant. Met dit NSO-gefinancierde onderzoek hopen we dat nadeel weg te nemen en onze klanten volledige ontwerpflexibiliteit te geven.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vergeleken met een alternatief voor &#8216;groene&#8217; satellietvoortstuwing, LMP-103S (ADN), dat gebruik maakt van de klassieke <em>blowdown<\/em>-architectuur, is de impulsdichtheid van het systeem van Dawn in veel gevallen meer dan 50% hoger. \u201cWe hopen onze tankmassa met nog eens 50% te verminderen\u201d, zegt Wink. &#8220;Dat zal resulteren in nog meer impulsdichtheid, delta-v en hogere prestaties voor onze klanten.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNLR is verheugd om bij te dragen aan het project met zijn unieke kennis van metaal-3D-printen en toegespitste faciliteiten, zoals het NLR Metal Additive Manufacturing Technology Center (MAMTeC). Dit stimuleert de toekomstige productie van kwalificeerbare voortstuwingscomponenten voor toepassing in de ruimte door 3D-printen in Nederland\u201d, stelt Marc de Smit, R&amp;D Engineer bij NLR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dawn was een van de tien bedrijven die eerder dit jaar fase 1-financiering ontving voor de haalbaarheidsstudie. De vijf meest veelbelovende innovaties ontvingen aanvullende financiering; in totaal \u20ac 2,5 miljoen. Dit is de eerste keer dat SBIR-financiering beschikbaar is gesteld voor de ontwikkeling van ruimtevaart-hardware. Het maakt deel uit van een strategische oproep van de Nederlandse regering in &#8216;Technologieontwikkeling voor ruimte-infrastructuur&#8217;, waarmee het in Nederland gevestigde aanbod voor toekomstige Europese ruimtevaartagentschappen en commerci\u00eble missies wordt bevorderd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHet doel van de SBIR is om bedrijven uit Nederland uit te dagen om hun technologische en innovatieve capaciteiten te laten zien\u201d, licht Ramon Peeters, projectleider van de SBIR-T bij <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spaceoffice.nl\/nl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NSO<\/a>, toe. De producten moeten bijdragen aan de ESA-programma\u2019s en daarmee op de lange termijn aan de informatiebehoefte van de Nederlandse overheid.
