STUNNING: one of the world's largest thermoplastic aerostructures completed
  Stunning-PressRelease-New
GKN Fokker, NLR, Delft University of Technology, Diehl Aviation and SAM|XL, have successfully manufactured one of the world’s largest thermoplastic components as part of the Multi-Functional Fuselage Demonstrator (MFFD) project led by Airbus. The Clean Sky 2 STUNNING project demonstrates how the use of thermoplastic composites can help realise a next-gen fleet of aircraft capable of offering the same strength and durability as aluminum, while drastically reducing the fuselage recurring cost, as well as the overall weight of aircraft and the subsequent emissions.

Increasing electric power levels for hybrid-electric aircraft
The development of hybrid-electric aircraft is seen as one of the key ingredients to success when it comes to achieving the goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. Electric power levels need to increase to be able to have large sized airplanes flying (hybrid) electric for regional use. The Clean Aviation HECATE project aims to demonstrate the possibilities for this by 2025.
