Programme
Information readiness and operations
NLR supports the Dutch government in accelerating the transformation of its operational concepts and systems into information-driven operations. The focus lies on the tactical and operational processes within the aerospace domain. The goal is to speed up these processes, on the basis of better informed decisions.
“ Data is indispensable for a safe society”
Programme leader Antoine de Reus on the Information readiness and operations programme
In the programme Information readiness and operations, we will identify the bottlenecks in the existing information-driven operational processes together with our stakeholders and other external parties. Where possible and desired, NLR will assist in developing concrete solutions for these bottlenecks, in collaboration with commercial and academic market parties. We will continually involve the stakeholders in our research. In this way, they can give direction to and directly benefit from the results.

Some projects
Modelling & Reasoning for Tactical Decision Making
To effectively deploy intelligent autonomous systems and decision support tools during tactical operations, we are developing knowledge about AI technologies that can function in complex and uncertain environments. We are investigating methods to model tactical environments and developing AI and simulation technologies for tactical reasoning and learning. The goal is to develop actionable advice that supports military personnel in making decisions in dynamic situations. With these innovations, we are increasing the deployability of autonomous systems and improving the effectiveness of tactical operations.

Third Party & Supply Chain Management
Our project focuses on building knowledge about cyber security aspects of Defence supply chains. We are analysing existing processes and techniques to identify and mitigate cyber risks. The focus is on information technology, where we investigate which processes are already implemented and where improvements are needed. NLR specifically concentrates on supply chains for aerospace systems, space systems, and sensor data products. Our goal is to understand and mitigate cyber security risks in these chains, thereby ensuring the safety of Defence.

DOE MDO
Our DOE MDO project focuses on developing simulation tools and models to generate realistic data in operational and tactical scenarios. We are investigating how to simulate complex behaviour on social networks and how AI can support operations in the information environment. Our goal is to train and support military personnel in various scenarios, ranging from small to large-scale operations. With our simulations and innovations, we aim to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of military operations.
