What results does applied research achieve and what is its intended impact? In the annual magazine TO2MORROW, the organisations collaborating in applied research once again describe some of their exceptional pieces of research.
A substantial proportion of the applied research done in the Netherlands is carried out at five institutes: Deltares, MARIN, TNO, Wageningen University & Research (WUR) and Royal NLR. These institutes work together as the TO2 federation, constituting an essential element in the Dutch knowledge infrastructure. In their role as strategic knowledge partners for the national government, the commercial sector and organisations within society, the TO2 institutions have the task of developing knowledge, applying it and passing it on so that social questions can be tackled jointly. All five of them show where innovation is needed, broaden their knowledge and expand how it is utilised in wide-ranging research programmes as public-private partnerships. The aim is to make the Netherlands economically strong, resilient and future-proof.
Once a year, the TO2MORROW magazine presents some of the exceptional results of the research and collaboration between the five TO2 institutes. It is an accessibly written ‘impact report’ in which the institutions give concrete examples of how they are ultimately helping the commercial sector innovate and find solutions for the challenges in society.
