Royal NLR and Lockheed Martin collaborate on e-Pilot capability development

Together with its partners, Royal Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR) will work closely with Lockheed Martin to advance the development of an e-Pilot capability that enhances human-machine teaming in military aviation over the next six years. Lockheed Martin will share technical knowledge and experiences on e-Pilot technology to assist NLR and its partners in developing their own intellectual property within the sense, assess and augment architecture.

Royal Netherlands Aerospace Centre will work together with Lockheed Martin on the development of small crack methodologies for airframe lifing over the next three years. Strategic cooperation between NLR and TNO accelerates dutch military space capabilities

Royal Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR) and TNO have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to accelerate innovation in the field of Military Use of Space (MUoS). This agreement is a further intensification of the existing cooperation between the two knowledge institutions, which have been working together for over ten years in the field of military space applications.

Approval of NLR’s research plan and funding for key facilities

NLR’s research plan for 2026 was recently formally approved. This plan outlines NLR’s planned knowledge development for 2026 and gives concrete shape to the NLR Strategic Plan 2026–2029. In addition, funding has been allocated for three important NLR facilities.

New Drone Operator training: Firda and NLR join forces

Firda Emmeloord MBO college and the applied research organisation NLR are partnering to launch a new MBO training programme ‘Drone Operations Specialist’ scheduled to start in 2026. Firda will deliver the educational component, while NLR will provide its expertise and facilities. This partnership adresses the growing need for qualified drone operators and supports the development of the new MITC in Marknesse.

When the going gets tough

With great anticipation, I look forward to the Tweede Kamer elections on 29 October. Even the ballot paper itself is impressive, with over a thousand candidates spread across 27 parties. The political debate is dominated by a wide range of themes, with opinions often poles apart. This also applies within the field of Royal NLR – Netherlands Aerospace Centre. Should Lelystad Airport remain open for both defence and civil aviation, or should it remain closed for commercial flights? And how do we make aviation more sustainable – and who will foot the bill? These are just a few examples of the many ambitions outlined in party manifestos.
