Dynamically scaled aircraft

Dynamically scaled models are used for the validation of an aircraft design or aircraft technology, after it has been analysed and improved with numerical methods. Commonly known are the (static) wind tunnel tests on scale. The scaled testing reduce cost and risk of full-scale tests. Self-powered, free-flying dynamically scaled models can be used to discover the dynamic “realm”. For example, control, stability and upset conditions (like spin recovery, high angle of attack, stall). This is not possible with static test, and in most cases very risky when using a full-scale prototype.

Upset recovery simulation and testing

NLR can help you evaluate and validate your aircraft simulation using wind tunnel data, covering the entire flight envelope, including the stall region. We also offer a cost-effective solution to extend your simulation for upset recovery training, and provide support in defining and meeting certification requirements for implementing upset recovery and loss-of-control simulation in your flight curriculum.

Rotorcraft performance and handling

Ensuring the safe and efficient operation of rotorcraft requires rigorous testing and evaluation. NLR offers expert consultation services for Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E) of rotorcraft performance, helping you to assess flight performance, extend flight envelopes, and evaluate engine failure conditions. Our expertise also extends to accident investigation, stability and control analysis, including sling load operations.

Flight procedure validation

Ensuring the safety and efficiency of flight procedures is crucial for modern air traffic management. When it comes to implementing Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) procedures, such as RNAV/RNP, RNP APCH or RNP AR, a thorough validation process is essential. NLR's Flight Procedure Validation can support you in substantiating your decision to perform a Ground or Flight validation, conducting a 'desktop', simulator or in-flight validation of PBN procedures.

Fewer delays and less noise nuisance at and near airports

It’s far from unknown for peak crowding at airports to hit the headlines. And it’s not only the passengers who are stuck in queues: it’s busy in the air too. That’s why the ITARO project has bundled various solutions together to reduce the delays for flights, including gains that can be made in terms of noise nuisance and emissions.
