Anniversary edition of TO2MORROW showcases solutions to societal challenges
The tenth edition of TO2MORROW has been published: the annual magazine in which the five Dutch TO2 institutions share their most impactful results. This anniversary issue highlights how applied research contributes every day to innovation, safety and sustainability in the Netherlands.

Approval of NLR’s research plan and funding for key facilities
NLR’s research plan for 2026 was recently formally approved. This plan outlines NLR’s planned knowledge development for 2026 and gives concrete shape to the NLR Strategic Plan 2026–2029. In addition, funding has been allocated for three important NLR facilities.

When the going gets tough
With great anticipation, I look forward to the Tweede Kamer elections on 29 October. Even the ballot paper itself is impressive, with over a thousand candidates spread across 27 parties. The political debate is dominated by a wide range of themes, with opinions often poles apart. This also applies within the field of Royal NLR - Netherlands Aerospace Centre. Should Lelystad Airport remain open for both defence and civil aviation, or should it remain closed for commercial flights? And how do we make aviation more sustainable - and who will foot the bill? These are just a few examples of the many ambitions outlined in party manifestos.

Resilience Week: NLR and TNO join forces for a safer future
From cyber attacks to espionage, from disinformation to disrupting vital infrastructure – the Netherlands is being tested on its resilience more and more often. Today's security issues are complex and affect all sectors. Cooperation is not a choice, but a necessity. That is why NLR and TNO are organising the Resilience Week from 27 to 31 October: a joint initiative that raises awareness amongst employees of their role in strengthening national resilience.

NLR launches its strategic plan for 2026 to 2029
Minister Karremans of Economic Affairs has approved NLR's new strategy. This strategy continues the current long-term themes, focusing on a safe society, strengthening the economy, and sustainability. National and international developments have led to a greater emphasis on safety and competitiveness in the new plan.

With the Strategic Plan 2026 – 2029, we lay an important foundation for a safer, more sustainable, and more competitive future for the Netherlands. We focus on addressing complex societal challenges and changing geopolitical circumstances, with an emphasis on safety and competitiveness. Our vision is to support the Dutch government and businesses in their search for innovative solutions, particularly by paying attention to high-tech startups and scale-ups.

Royal NLR appoints new Board
As of June 1, 2025, NLR will have a new collegiate board. The top structure will be expanded to a three-headed board, consisting of a CEO, a CFO, and a CTO. With the appointment of Tineke van der Veen, Jan Lintsen, and Martin Nagelsmit, the organisation will lay a robust foundation to strengthen and further develop its international knowledge position in the aerospace sector.
