That is why research and innovations are so important. Small electric planes are already flying in prototype form. But when will large commercial aircraft fly completely electrically? Technological developments are going faster and faster. We only have to wait for that final breakthrough. Flying electric: NOVAIR [afbeelding1-2] A clever combination of electric and kerosene-driven engines could reduce the total energy requirement. NOVAIR will research the possible solutions that will enable hybrid electric propulsion. READ MORE ... [2] Introducing: the 'CRPDT' [Nwsbrf_264x176 NLR_CRPDT module_contactless rotational sensor data transmission] A maintenance-free, contactless and fast-rotating sensor data measuring system for a wind tunnel model capable of handling 8400 rpm. No such system existed yet so NLR developed the highly advanced 'CRPDT'. READ MORE ... [3] MRO cooperation OGMA and NLR [Nwsbrf_264x176 OGMA_NLR MoU 2017] OGMA (Industria Aeronautica de Portugal) and NLR signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a cooperative relationship for R&D projects, technical cooperation in aeronautical MRO technologies and the upgrading of airplanes. The MoU was signed by OGMA Chairman & CEO, Marco Tulio Pellegrini, and NLR CEO, Michel Peters, in the presence of the Dutch King and Queen as part of the State Visit of His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, and an economic mission of 23 airport and aerospace companies to Portugal. NLR supported the students in the aerodynamic design and the composite bodywork. READ MORE .. [4] Drone delivery service for medicines [olympus-digital-camera] Innovative applications for drones are countless, but require rules for safe integration in civil airspace. The Dutch government, business and knowledge institutions will start an experiment with out-of-sight drone flights. These ‘Beyond Visual Line Of Sight’ (BVLOS) flights are important to enable a variety of different societal and economic applications that necessitate drones covering a greater distance. The experiment is dedicated to delivering parcels of medicines with drone flights and will take place in March 2018. READ MORE ...
