Sustainable alternatives to kerosene: the facts

Why are CO2 emissions from flying still rising although planes are becoming more economical? What would be a logical distance for flying battery-powered electric aircraft? What techniques are there for flying on hydrogen? The facts, plain and simple.

Royal NLR and Delft University of Technology answer various burning questions about sustainable aviation by laying out the plain and simple truth in a fact sheet called ‘Sustainable Alternatives to Kerosene’.

This is how the two parties are aiming to provide input to the lively social debate about making aviation greener. The NLR and TU Delft previously published a whitepaper about the most promising technological routes towards climate-neutral aviation by 2050.

NLR and DLR publish framework for assessing aviation’s environmental footprint

Presented at the EASN International Conference in Madrid, the two aerospace research centres NLR and DLR published a joint guidance for Life Cycle Assessment in the Air Transport System. This uncovers the fundamental gap between in-flight emissions and a comprehensive view of the environmental impact of flying.

NLR collaborates with Airbus on Caracal Helicopters

Royal NLR - Netherlands Aerospace Centre has signed a contract with Airbus Helicopters to innovate a preventive maintenance strategy supporting the new H225M Caracal helicopters purchased by the Dutch Ministry of Defence. The agreement is part of a broader Industrial Participation Agreement between the Commissariat for Military Production (CMP) of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Airbus Helicopters.
